About the Team:

For more information about the team, our schedule, or how to get involved, email calsailing@gmail.com.

The California Golden Bears Sailing Team is a student-run, competitive racing team from the University of California at Berkeley. It was started in 1922 and is the second oldest club sport at Cal. The team regularly competes in regattas on the San Francisco Bay, the waters of Southern California and Hawaii, and along the East Coast.

Our fleet of twelve FJ's is located at Treasure Island Sailing Center where we practice three days a week. Only fifteen minutes from campus by car, Treasure Island provides some of the best sailing on the west coast, not to mention some beautiful views of both the San Francisco and Oakland skylines.

To Potential New Members:

The first regatta of the spring season is coming up next weekend, and the Cal sailing team has been back on the water for two weeks now, preparing.  This semester we have 28 active members, so practices have been very productive for everyone, and we’re hoping to follow up on our top ten, interdivision finishes, from last semester, with some good results.  Our regatta schedule is full, with regattas nearly every weekend for the next few months leading up to the college Pacific Coast Championship which is being held here on the San Francisco city front.

Many exciting new developments have been made possible by our alumni base, and team leadership including new lines for all of our boats, a sail purchase that is being organized, and plans to start a travel fund for regattas on the east coast next year.  Before PCCs, we plan to bring in a few different coaches to get some new perspectives, and hopefully to help fine tune our boat speed and boat handling.

With a solid base, we’re looking to expand our team’s skills and depth, next year.  A visiting weekend for new recruits is being organized for the 6th-8th of March.  For more information about the recruiting day, the team, or how you can get involved, visit www.calsailing.org or e mail calsailing@gmail.com.  We’d love to hear from you.
