About the Team:
For more information about the team, our schedule, or how to get involved, email calsailing@gmail.com.
The California Golden Bears Sailing Team is a student-run, competitive racing team from the University of California at Berkeley. It was started in 1922 and is the second oldest club sport at Cal. The team regularly competes in regattas on the San Francisco Bay, the waters of Southern California and Hawaii, and along the East Coast.
Our fleet of twelve FJ's is located at Treasure Island Sailing Center where we practice three days a week. Only fifteen minutes from campus by car, Treasure Island provides some of the best sailing on the west coast, not to mention some beautiful views of both the San Francisco and Oakland skylines.
To Potential New Members:
The Fall 2009 season will commence with the annual Stoney Burke Regatta hosted at our home venue at Clipper Cove. Stoney Burke will be a great introduction to the collegiate level of competitive sailing and also a chance to meet competing teams. The event, taking place the weekend of October 10th and 11th, allows all members to experience competitive sailing and the team work it takes to run a regatta.
The following teams will be competing; Chapman, CSU Monterey Bay, Stanford, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, USC, Cal Maritime, CSU Channel Island, CSU Northridge, Cal Poly SLO, UC Davis, Hawaii, UC Santa Cruz, Western Washington, University of Washington, Oregon, Lewis & Clark, Oregon State, University of Victoria, and University of Florida.
This fall, our weekends will be packed with fun, exciting, and memorable events such as racing, hosting regattas, and volunteering for T.I. Highlights of the season includes the 7th Annual Big Sail against Stanford, a new team vehicle generously donated by the Barclay family, new race sails thanks to the support of donors, and Paul Heineken, our wonderful new volunteer coach.
With a solid base, we are looking to expand our team’s skills and continue the Corinthian spirit at Cal. For more information about the team or how you can get involved, visit the Team Info page or e-mail calsailing@gmail.com. We’d love to hear from you and Go Bears!
